Expanded gaming options to be decided by voters

Council met with Staff for a work session prior to the regular meeting. The topics of discussion were the upcoming budget calendar and gaming device fees. The City reduced the 2020 Budget by 70 percent already so far. Gaming revenues have decreased by 41 percent this year. (more…)

Funding grants to Gilpin County Extension Office will provide leadership training, substance abuse prevention, and life skills

The Gilpin County Extension office recently won two grants: The Substance Abuse Block Grant and the Tony Grampsas Youth Services grant. All of the awarded money will be put towards youth workshops for Gilpin students. While many details are still in the works for both workshops, they will work to provide leadership training, substance abuse prevention, and life skills. (more…)

Virtual classes for real students designed for best learning models and to keep everyone healthy

The Gilpin school board announced that they will be doing virtual school for at least a month starting off. They decided to rescind in-person school because of the rising COVID-19 cases. Gilpin schools did have nine weeks of remote learning last school year in reaction to the coronavirus pandemic. An online learning plan has been created based on trial and error from last year.
