    Thursday, August 9, brought some life back again to the Gilpin County School for the annual Back to School night. This has become a bit of a ritual for the kids to reconnect with their school, friends, and teachers, and an opportunity to start out the new school year on the right foot.   In an effort to become more paperless, the staff had several computers set up on a table in the atrium.     Boulder Police Department and Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officers were dispatched late Thursday evening, August 9, to the 400 block of Marine Street for a report of a mountain lion inside a home.

    On Monday, August 6, 2018, Cody Allen’s heart started beating a little faster. Cody is a volunteer fire-fighter for Central City, and at 8:07 pm he got the call for what terrifies many residents in our dry, wooded haven we call home, a fire in Russell Gulch. Cody is part of the wildland fire crew that engages flaming threats to the forested area in and around Central City. The Central City wildland crew joined Timberline Fire and Black Hawk Fire already on the scene of a flaming husk of a camper off the Pewabic Mine Road south of the City. The flames were finding fuel in the surrounding trees and Central’s wildland crew went to work controlling the progression of the flames. (more…)

    The Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on Thursday, August 2, at 9:00 a.m. at the Gilpin County Courthouse. Those present were Chair Ron Engels, Commissioners Linda Isenhart and Gail Watson, County Attorney Jim Petrock, and Deputy Clerk to the Board Sharon Cate. The only amendment to the agenda was the addition of a resolution, #18-11, supporting grant applications for the rehabilitation of the Belvidere Theatre by the City of Central. (more…)

    The Evergreen Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) performed an 1860’s style flag presentation at Washington Hall in Central City on Wednesday, August 1.

    On that date in 1876, President Ulysses S. Grant signed a proclamation admitting Colorado as the 38th state. Accordingly, August 1, 2018, marked Colorado’s 142nd birthday. (more…)

    Donna Cozart passed away July 29th at the age of 94. She has been a Gilpin resident since 1980. Her memorial service will be held at Christ the King Church Saturday, August 25th at 10 am. WinGS ladies group from CTK will provide a potluck lunch for those paying respects to the memory of Donna Cozart.

Family members are wife Kay, children Heidi (Ed) Pasic, Lisa Artz, Tony (Mary) Lorenz, Stephanie (Al) Elio, and Jeff (Suzi) Lorenz. Also are sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
