Frank Hall was born March 4, 1836 in Poughkeesie, Dutchess County, New York. Three years later, his father died and Frank went to live with family in Litchfield County, Connecticut. For the next five years, he attended common school before returning to New York and enrolling at Kingston Academy. After two and a half years at Kingston, he moved to Syracuse, NY. (more…)

County Staff Team-Building on May 3rd

With frozen fog and light snow Gilpin County Commissioners gathered for the last time this construction season at Central City Hall, for their regular Board of County Commissioners meeting, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 9 am. On Friday, April 26 they will have their next executive session meeting at the Old Courthouse, 203 Eureka Street, back in their refreshed home first used in 1900. (more…)
On Paid Administrative Leave
PRESS RELEASE – The Board of County Commissioners placed County Manager Leslie Klusmire on paid administrative leave on April 11, 2018 and relieved her of any further responsibility for County management, effective on that date. After much deliberation, the Board agreed that Ms. Klusmire’s management style was inconsistent with its goals, and it would benefit Gilpin County, its employees, and Ms. Klusmire to relieve her of her responsibilities. Baseball team meets the Lions

Track and Field News
The Gilpin Eagles varsity track and field athletes traveled to the Clear Creek Invitational on Monday, April 16, breaking three previous Gilpin school records. The team also participated in the Denver Christian Invitational Meet on Saturday, April 14, performing well and nabbing a best finish in the 400-meter dash. (more…)
March 2, 1942 – April 15, 2018
Pat Edward Monahan was born March 2, 1942 in Ward, Colorado to Edward James Monahan & Levina Rose Gundy, baptized by Father Rock at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Denver Colorado.
He attended Mullen High School in Denver and graduated in 1960, “Go Hoofbeats.” The following years were spent in Central City where he parked cars at Jakes Parking Lot. (more…)

The Clear Creek-Gilpin Academy of Martial Arts hosted the spring tournament at the Gilpin County Community Center on Saturday, April 14th. Students began to arrive at 11 am, coming from Green Mountain Academy or Martial Arts, Lakewood Mountain Academy of Martial Arts, Gilpin and Clear Creek. (more…)
City to auction off surplus equipment

The regular Black Hawk City Council meeting scheduled for March 28 was canceled. Aldermen met Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 1:30 pm, officially calling the meeting to order for a Comprehensive Plan Workshop before the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting. (more…)

Double-lung transplant needed

Kim McMahon’s major lung concerns come from COPD and respiratory-bronchiolitis ILD, the worst kind. The air does not easily transfer through her lung cells as they become coated and are no longer flexible as normal when breathing. Her lungs ache from becoming hard, preventing oxygen from getting picked up by her red-blood cells. Her red blood cells are enlarged, a common response to actually attack her damaged lungs. (more…)

Timberline Fire Protection District board hopefuls gathered Timberline Station No. 5 Tuesday evening for a public meet and great. The meeting consisted of a brief bio of each candidate and a public question and answer session. The forum was hosted by the Timberline FPD and moderated by Lieutenant Caleb Kropf. (more…)
Ball earns second place berth in 200M at Thunderhawk Twilight Invitational

Thunderhawk Twilight Invitational
Gilpin High School’s varsity track and field squads traveled to Henderson on April 3 for the Thunderhawk Twilight Invitational meet. The boys’ team placed 12th out of 23 teams; Poudre was first overall. Senior runner Jack Ball placed second in the 400-meter dash, barely more than a second away from first place with a time of 52.78 seconds. Ball also placed fourth in the 800-meter. (more…)

Itchy Trigger Fingers at Council Work Session

The Central City Council met with Staff on April 3, 2018, for a work session prior to the regular council meeting. Topics of discussion were the Wild Bunch Gang and some other miscellaneous items.
