Thomas James Gish, 59, of Black Hawk, passed away suddenly on June 17, 2020, at home. Tommy had lived in Black Hawk and Gilpin County for over 30 years. Tommy loved life and flamboyantly charged through it without remorse. Tommy was always capturing hearts along the way with his easy laughter and fast wit. It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that Judy Grant, our Board Chair, passed away on June 15, 2020. Judy served on the Central City Opera Board of Directors since 2002 and assumed the Chairmanship in 2018. She was a gracious representative of the organization in all she did. She loved to show off all that Central City Opera had to offer and we were lucky to have her dedication and commitment guiding this organization. She was a dear friend who will be greatly missed. With great sadness, the McBride and Hileman families announce the passing of Donna Irene Allen McBride on May 2, 2020 at River Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette, CO. Donna was born on July 10, 1933 in Idaho Springs, Colorado, and grew up in nearby Central City, Colorado. Donna’s parents were Earl and Elva Allen of Central City.

Derek Coit, a man with an unwavering passion for music, an affinity for playing keyboards, and a love for the great outdoors, passed away on May 16, 2023. He was a cherished friend and a beloved son and brother who touched the lives of all who knew him.
Born on July 4, 1968, in Cherry Hills, Colorado, Derek’s early years were filled with the melodies of life. He discovered his talent for music at a young age, developing a deep connection to the keyboard. His soulful compositions and performances were a testament to his dedication and creativity.
Derek’s love for nature led him to embrace the art of landscaping. He found joy in working outdoors, transforming spaces into beautiful and harmonious environments. His commitment to his craft was evident in every project he undertook, leaving a lasting impression on the landscapes he touched.
Above all else, Derek treasured his friendships. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, making each person feel valued and appreciated. His kindness, warmth, and genuine nature created a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have known him.
In 2010, Derek relocated to Huntington Beach, California, seeking new horizons and opportunities. He quickly found solace in the vibrant music scene and immersed himself in the local community. His musical talent and infectious enthusiasm resonated with others, and he became an integral part of the music scene in his new home.
Throughout his life, Derek enjoyed golfing at Cherry Hills Country Club, where he honed his skills and fostered lasting friendships. He also spent many summers sailing with The Grand Lake Yacht Club, embracing the serenity of the open water and creating memories that would forever be cherished.
Derek’s dedication to his craft led him to a rewarding career in audio sweetening for Time Warner Motion Pictures. His meticulous attention to detail and passion for sound brought depth and richness to countless films, leaving an indelible mark on the world of cinema.
Derek is survived by his loving mother, Beverly, and his sister, Lisa. Their bond as a family was unbreakable, and their memories together will continue to be a source of comfort and strength.
We remember Derek Coit as a remarkable individual who pursued his passions with unwavering determination. His music, talent, and friendship enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. Derek’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A memorial service will be held on July 4th 1:00pm at The Green Bridge in Cherry Hills to celebrate his life.

Paul E. Dellinger went to be with His Lord at his final home in heaven on Friday, April 10th, 2020. He was 89 years old and lived a truly blessed life. He was born to Burgen and Mildred Dellinger in 1931 in the state of South Dakota. He moved here to Colorado at a young age with his four other brothers. He married his wife Ann in 1955. She still survives him along with two sons; David living in Oregon, and Tom living here in Gilpin County, along with four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. (more…)

Quinn Michael Sullivan-Patterson passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020, only a few months before his 26th birthday. Quinn was born in Brighton, CO at the Platte Valley Hospital. He lived two weeks in Platteville before moving to Gilpin County, Colorado.

Lucille Martha Hanggee Scheufler passed away on April 11, 2020 in Aurora, Colorado.
Lucille (Lucy) was born on August 19, 1930, in Dayton Plains Michigan, to Joseph and Virginia Hanggee.
She graduated from Sterling College in Kansas, married Charles Russel Scheufler and later moved to Colorado where, for several years, they owned an insurance agency and numerous Christian book stores. (more…)

It is with unimaginable sadness that the family of David Rush Hitchcock announces his passing on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020 in San Clemente, Ecuador. Born in Atlanta, GA on June 27, 1969, raised (mostly) in Louisville, David became a man of the world. Priscilla Robin Hooks (Pat), a long-time resident of Gilpin County, passed peacefully on February 16th to join her husband James for eternal life with the Lord. Her love, laughter, and humor will be truly missed by her six children; Marilyn (Greg), Rhonda, Cindy (Tim),Linda (Rusty), Joanne (Larry), and Jim. Paul Stephen Coleman, educator, husband, father, prankster and friend, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2020 with his wife Judy at his side. Paul was the consummate teacher of life lessons, book studies, physical fitness, mechanics of every kind, common sense, and thoughtful decisions. Mindy Wales was born in New York City and grew up in Queens, New York. At the age of 19 she moved to Colorado and became a long-time resident of Gilpin County. She owned and operated an old time photo studio called “Mr. Yellow Bellows” in Central City forabout 10 years. She was a loving mother of two sons, Cody and Wyatt. Steven Vidyaran Hanson, 68, a longtime resident of Pinecliffe, Colorado, died on February 16, 2020 of cancer. Born in Oakland, California on March 8, 1951 to Robert Carl Hanson and Margaret Bremner, Steve attended Flatirons Elementary School, Baseline Junior High, and Boulder High School. Steve worked as a chef on the Big Island of Hawaii in the early 1970s, then at the Broker Inn in Boulder. Longtime Gilpin County resident, Donald Albert Bennallack, M.D., passed away early in the morning of February 7, 2020 after a short hospitalization at 95 years old. He was born October 9, 1924, the son of Ralph Bennallack and Leona J. (Weir) Bennallack, of Central City, CO.
