On March 14, 2018, Edward Roy Lewandowski laid his single jack to rest on earth to search for the riches in heaven.He always looked forward to joining his wife Elaine, who pre-deceased him. Left behind, but not without the memories of both their parents, are EJ, Gary & Karen, their spouses, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A box of chocolates

Fishing is “like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re gonna get.”
After an obligatory stop at New Orleans’ French Quarter for a bowl of gumbo and raw oysters, we continued southeast to the Lighthouse Lodge settling in for a good night’s sleep. The next still-dark morning we met owner and operator Capt. Sal Gagliano of Bottom Line Outfitters at Joshua Marina for a day of inshore fishing. (more…)
Baskets full of Easter joy and fun for every girl and boys

All bunny trails led to the Gilpin Community Center (GCC) last Saturday, March 24, for its annual Easter eggstravaganza. A crowd of kids from birth to age 12 and their parents celebrated the start of spring break with indoor egg hunts, games, and prizes. It was hard to tell who was having more fun – the children or the grinning moms, dads, and grandparents who were watching and photographing those special moments. “Happy Easter” greetings filled the air. Born in Licking County, Ohio on November 23, 1838, David S. Green was the son of Congressman Isaac Green and his wife Elizabeth (Brown) Green. It takes self-effacing courage and a sense of humor – especially when the audience is a gym full of noisy school students. And when the local media shows up with a camera and asks, “Why are you getting your head shaved?” these special folks give gracious responses and allow their photos to be taken. (more…)
Gilpin students participate in Enough! National School Walkout Day

Students from Gilpin County School, along with thousands of other young people across America, walked out of their classrooms last Wednesday, March 14, at 10 a.m. The walkout was scheduled for 17 minutes, to remember the 17 students and teachers who were killed and 17 more injured in a mass shooting on February 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
