    The Central City Council met with Staff on May 1, 2018, for a work session prior to the regular council meeting. The topic of conversation was All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) regulations if a recreational program is installed within City Limits. The Council was presented with a proposal to allow ATV and OHV operations on designated City streets along with samples of policies from other Colorado municipalities. (more…)

    Patricia Hall Daniel known to her friends as Patsy, born September 5, 1945 passing on March 28, 2018 at 72 years of age.

    January 10, 1947 – April 14, 2018

    Ronald “Ron” Lee King of 412 Chalet Drive, Black Hawk died of complications stemming from pneumonia on Saturday, April 14 at Lutheran Hospital in Lakewood. He was 71 years old.

    Ron was preceded in death by his father, Donald and by one of his younger brothers, Wayne. Ron is survived by his wife Mickie of Black Hawk; his mother Eleanor of Sharon Springs, KS; and three married brothers: David and his wife Melody of Sharon Springs, KS; Alan and his wife Mimi of Grand Junction, CO; and Gary and his wife Adelaida of Black Hawk. He is also survived by two children, Eric and Tina, from a previous marriage. (more…)

    Gilpin County Players tackle Shakespeare

    “The course of true love never did run smooth.”

    That was an understatement for the characters in Shakespeare’s comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” skillfully presented by the Gilpin County Players on April 19-21 in the Gilpin School auditorium. Students from elementary through high school and many supporting adults combined forces to produce the play, which the large audiences attending all performances found delightful. (more…)

    Donkeys are well known for being work animals – for being used for transportation and for carrying goods. Sometimes, though, they get to have a little fun. That was the case on Wednesday evening, April 18, when eight of them visited Gilpin County School for an entertaining “Donkey Basketball” fundraiser to solicit donations for the eighth and twelfth grade classes. A pulled pork dinner kicked off the evening, and the games followed in the school’s old gym. (more…)

    With frozen fog and light snow Gilpin County Commissioners gathered for the last time this construction season at Central City Hall, for their regular Board of County Commissioners meeting, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 9 am. On Friday, April 26 they will have their next executive session meeting at the Old Courthouse, 203 Eureka Street, back in their refreshed home first used in 1900.  (more…)

    PRESS RELEASE – The Board of County Commissioners placed County Manager Leslie Klusmire on paid administrative leave on April 11, 2018 and relieved her of any further responsibility for County management, effective on that date. After much deliberation, the Board agreed that Ms. Klusmire’s management style was inconsistent with its goals, and it would benefit Gilpin County, its employees, and Ms. Klusmire to relieve her of her responsibilities.  (more…)

    The Gilpin Eagles varsity track and field athletes traveled to the Clear Creek Invitational on Monday, April 16, breaking three previous Gilpin school records. The team also participated in the Denver Christian Invitational Meet on Saturday, April 14, performing well and nabbing a best finish in the 400-meter dash. (more…)

    Pat Edward Monahan was born March 2, 1942 in Ward, Colorado to Edward James Monahan & Levina Rose Gundy, baptized by Father Rock at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Denver Colorado.

    He attended Mullen High School in Denver and graduated in 1960, “Go Hoofbeats.” The following years were spent in Central City where he parked cars at Jakes Parking Lot. (more…)
