Black Hawk Council Keeps Busy

Mayor David Spellman and the City Council met Wednesday, July 26, 2017 in the old Presbyterian Church, in their upstairs chambers at 211 Church Street in Black Hawk, Colorado. The original agenda had planned to tour Chase Gulch at 1:00 pm and call the meeting to order immediately following the tour. Due to the monsoon weather predicting 100% chance of rain, the tour was cancelled and rescheduled before the August 9^th meeting. This regular bi-monthly meeting was held at the normal time of 3 pm. Work Session

The Central City Council met with Staff on August 1, 2017 for a work session prior to the regular council meeting. The topics of conversation were the Wayfinding Signage, Exit 7 on the Parkway, the Business Assistance Program, and the fire department’s truck number 32. Speakers addressing the Council were Director Ray Rears, Alderwoman Bell, and Manager Miera. The work session ran long and so part of Bell’s and Miera’s agendas were added to the regular meeting. The effects of the monsoon with the windows shaded made the upstairs room quite pleasant for the Gilpin County Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting, Tuesday, July 11, 2017. The room that is so filled with empty space due to the high ceiling makes it difficult to understand all that is said, despite the microphones amplified to the audience. (more…)

Black Hawk Acquires Open Space Property; Awards Parking Structure Contract

Once past the construction zone with frequent single lane traffic this summer on Gregory Street, we continued uphill to 211 Church Street, where Black Hawk City Council gathered for their regular meeting, Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Proud City Manager and “Grandpa” Jack Lewis introduced his Army family from NC: Captain Major Nate White, daughter Gracie, Warien, Jeremiah, and infant to the Council members. (more…)

For position of Gilpin County Manager

Meet the proposed candidates for the position of Gilpin County Manager. On April 25, 2017 Rodger Baker retired from his position as County Manager. The vacancy prompted 37 applicants to seek the position, of which eight were considered worthy of interviews for the first round. Only five of those interviewed, bringing Gilpin County the two qualified finalists: Leslie Ann Klusmire and Todd Leopold. (more…)

Tuesday, April 4^th Election Results

While Gilpin County relaxed in the relative quiet of fresh falling snow, Central City finalized an election for a vacant Council seat. In a domino falling fashion, Mayor Ron Engels was elected as County Commissioner last November; and then Mayor Pro-tempore Kathy Heider was internally elected Mayor for Central City vacating her Council seat.
