The end of recycling and other issues at Council Meeting

The Central City Council met for a budget work session on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at 5:00 pm to go over the bulk of the proposed 2018 Budget. One notable item is the Citizen Trash Service account which is proposed as $66,000; a $24,000 reduction from the expected cost of trash and recycling. Manager Miera informed the Council that the number does not include the cost of covering recycling fees for residents. (more…)
Gilpin County School pays tribute to our community’s veterans

Gilpin County military veterans were honored with a tribute on Thursday morning, November 9, at Gilpin County School. City Council Meeting

With Gregory Street open in Black Hawk, the area was not quiet where more construction is about to begin, as other projects are still being wrapped up. Mayor and Alderman David Spellman requested the meeting begin. New Fire Fighters; Matt Bowman and Cody Kalb were at the bell ringing post. Three rings with controls on the ropes made the signal to call the City of Black Hawk City Council Meeting to Order at 3:00 pm Wednesday, November 8, 2017. (more…)
Northern Front Range Recreational Sport Shooting Management Partnership Project

On November 6, the Gilpin County Community Center was the site of an event that may shape the future sport shooting on federally owned property in Gilpin County. The Northern Front Range Recreational Sport Shooting Management Partnership (RSSMP) hosted the event that was attended by about 60 Gilpin Citizens, County Commissioners, and members of the Sheriff’s Department. All in attendance are concerned with the increased shooting activity on nearby Forest Service System property. (more…)

Taking Shape to be User-Friendly

The Gregory Street thoroughfare has been in the state of flux for 158 years. It is a primary artery joining two incredible and historic cities, Black Hawk and Central City. According to Black Hawk’s Mayor David Spellman, the Gregory Street “HARD” District is right on schedule. HARD was coined by Spellman and the Black Hawk City Council. It stands for “History Appreciation Recreation Destination.” The future distilleries moving to the city like the phrase because HARD refers to their industry. The Mayor likes it because it ties in with the vision he has embraced for several years – that Black Hawk become a friendlier, year-round resort destination. (more…)

Central City Council Approves Gregory Street Paving Project

The Central City Council met with staff for a work session on the pending end of the marijuana licensing moratorium. The temporary suspension ends November 30, 2017 and the Council needs to give direction regarding changes to current code or staying with the current rule. City Council Meets Amid Public Scrutiny

The Central City Council met for a work session on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, to discuss five separate issues. The work session was unusually well attended by City residents concerned with these issues. Topics discussed were traffic infractions and excessively large vehicles traveling along Spruce Street, speed bump polices, the paint of the Belvidere Theatre, the costs to add turning options to Exit 7 on the Parkway, and the Water General damage. Commissioners deal with $254 Million Dollar Lien Filed Against County

The previous regular meeting of the Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners was on July 11, 2017 when the upstairs room in the old Courthouse on Eureka St in Central City had many more residents in attendance to give their comments to that agenda.
