Youngsters at Gilpin Elementary School learned a bit about life in that Third World country on Wednesday, February 13, as Gilpin resident Josh Bloom visited the children in Elizabeth Hamilton’s second grade class and Susan Sepanik’s fourth grade class. At Horsetooth Mountain Open Space

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers, working with Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, are investigating a mountain lion attack on a trail runner using the West Ridge Trail at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space on Monday, Feb. 4. Honey bees are good, but so are native bees

It’s no secret that honey bees are having a hard time. Farmers, beekeepers, and biologists sometimes refer to it as the “beepocalypse.” Even though colony collapse disorder is less of an issue than it was in years past, beekeepers continue to mysteriously lose between 30% and 40% of their stock every season. This worry has contributed to a huge national uptick in interest in backyard beekeeping, often in an effort to help the crisis. (more…)
42 teams contend at the Metro Denver Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge

STEM Fair held at Gilpin County Elementary School

Gilpin County Elementary School’s multi-purpose room was filled with 80 original, creative STEM Fair projects on Tuesday, December 18. At Christ the King Community Church

The more than 40 folks of all ages who came to HawkQuest Saturday, November 17 at Christ the King Community Church, came away with a deeper understanding of the birds of prey in Colorado. The HawkQuest presentation helped us realize the things we can do to preserve the amazingly well equipped birds’ habitat which included being respectful of the environment we share, along with simply picking up trash. We were reminded that in creation, God asked the people to take care of the animals. (more…)
