Nevadaville, Gilpin County, June 4, 1878 – This is one of the oldest mining towns of Colorado. It is reached by passing through Central City, and following Nevada Gulch up for nearly one and a half miles. The famous Burrough’s lode was discovered in 1859, just after the discovery of the big Gregory mine near Central. At the same time a great many miners came looking for gold in the gulch. Gilpin County Commissioner’s (BoCC) regular meeting was delayed slightly Tuesday, December 10, 2019. The extra five minutes allowed time for comments from the press and public, so three people commented. Senator’s Visit Highlights Development of Black Hawk’s 600-Acre Maryland Mountain Recreational Park

Community Food Shares at the Gilpin Community Center

The Holistic Homestead is a nonprofit that has been helping Gilpin get healthy since 2012. The Homestead does a lot in the community – from workshops like Hands On Health for Kids! to programs like coordinating the Used Durable Medical Equipment lending closets along the Peak to Peak. We surveyed Gilpin residents asking what impacts your health and wellness the most, and folks overwhelmingly responded that lack of access to healthy food was a major barrier to achieving and maintaining health in our community. The Gilpin County Senior Living Board of Directors would like to thank Sharon Perea for her immense contributions in founding and leading GCSL in their work toward building the first senior housing in Gilpin County. News from the Gilpin County Miner, December 7, 1939 by William C. Russell, Jr.: “The Methodist Church in Nevadaville was recently been purchased by Mrs. Mildred Zook of Hinsdale, Illinois, and she plans to make an Art Studio of it. Wm. C. Russell, Jr., is boarding it up for the winter. Gordon Starbuck has purchased the old Meyhew residence and has started fixing it up. Someone has purchased the brick Odd Fellows building and is tearing it down and hauling the brick away. It is said this is one of the oldest brick buildings in Colorado and that the brick were hauled here with ox teams. (more…)
