Recently, one of our local residents was asking about the large holes she found all over her property, and how they came to be.
Stephen Buck, previous resident, historian and founder/ moderator of the “You know you’re from Gilpin County” group on Facebook, replied that these were often called “Henry Holes” after Henry Niccum, an old prospector from Gilpin County who used to wander around the county tossing sticks of dynamite here and there to blow test holes! When Denver-based artist, Steve Griggs first visited Washington Hall Gallery in Central City, Colorado in 1989, he said out loud that he wanted to be in a gallery like it one day. At that time Griggs painted as a hobby and didn’t show his work to the public. Students begin another year anew

Thursday, August 9, brought some life back again to the Gilpin County School for the annual Back to School night. This has become a bit of a ritual for the kids to reconnect with their school, friends, and teachers, and an opportunity to start out the new school year on the right foot. In an effort to become more paperless, the staff had several computers set up on a table in the atrium. My name is Kevin Armstrong, and I want to be your next Sheriff for Gilpin County. I am a career law enforcement officer with over 38 years of experience. I began my career in 1980 with Wheat Ridge Police Department. I served as an officer in the Patrol Division, the Traffic Unit, and as a detective in the Investigations Division.
