    Gilpin High School’s salutatorian takes this admonition literally. Nick Raez and his family have moved frequently during Nick’s 18 years of life. As I spoke with him the other day about his school success and his future plans, Nick shared some insights about how living in different parts of the country can teach a person about human nature.     It was a beautiful day in Berthoud on Saturday, April 15 for the non-conference Max Marr Spartan Classic Meet.     Dozens of eggs-cited kids and their parents hopped over to the Gilpin County Community Center (GCCC) on Wednesday evening, April 12, for the annual Easter egg hunt and diving party.     In what began as an off-road enthusiast’s obsession taken to the next level in the late 70s, monster trucks are now part of American consciousness and vernacular. The term “monster truck” was inspired by the wildly popular Bigfoot which crushed its first car in 1981. At first a curiosity, opening for bigger acts such as motocross races, cable TV and ESPN introduced the sport to a mass audience, and the rest is history. (more…)

    While Gilpin County relaxed in the relative quiet of fresh falling snow, Central City finalized an election for a vacant Council seat. In a domino falling fashion, Mayor Ron Engels was elected as County Commissioner last November; and then Mayor Pro-tempore Kathy Heider was internally elected Mayor for Central City vacating her Council seat.
