April 7, 1952 – November 22, 2019
Daniel Edward Cooper, 67, passed away peacefully in Newport, California surrounded by family on November 22, 2019.
Dan was born April 7, 1952, in Pueblo, Colorado. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a CW2 helicopter pilot. He went on to become a civilian helicopter pilot for companies including Petroleum Helicopters (Lafayette, LA), Life Flight (Peoria, IL), and Flight for Life (Cleveland, OH). (more…)
Gilpin County Commissioners listen to resident’s concerns

Gilpin County Commissioner’s (BoCC) regular meeting was delayed slightly Tuesday, December 10, 2019. The extra five minutes allowed time for comments from the press and public, so three people commented. The first was a question about the delay of a response, and the next two were concerned citizens regarding the noise of jet traffic in our community. (more…)

Gilpin’s Construction Pirates earns 6th place from 23 teams

More than 20 teams competed in the FIRST Lego League Qualifier at Moore Middle School on November 23, 2019. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is the worldwide, nonprofit organization advancing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Throughout their FIRST experience, students gain maturity, build self-confidence, and learn teamwork. Students have fun while building a network of friends and coaches. (more…)
Bridge over Highway 119 kicks off countdown
Soon Coloradoans will have a new trail system to explore in Black Hawk. Crews will begin installing a bridge over Highway 119 on Monday, December 2nd to connect the Hidden Treasure Trailhead parking area to the new Gilpin Tramway Trail around the Maryland Mountain Recreational Park development. Highway 119 near mile marker 8 will be closed from 6 p.m. on December 2nd to 6 a.m. on December 3rd to install the new bridge. (more…)

Commissioners conduct a community work session regarding Denver Metroplex

A November 5th work session was scheduled at the end of the regular Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) meeting with Gilpin County Commissioners Linda Isenhart, Ron Engels, and Gail Watson. The topic was about the NextGEN Project that would increase air traffic over Gilpin County, and Commissioners planned to verbally update the public with actions planned and/or implemented, with consideration of residents opinions to determine the best approach for Gilpin County Commissioners to act.
