Last Tuesday evening, January the 21st the Gilpin County High School Eagles boy and girl’s varsities played the Longmont Christian Warriors in an away game held in Longmont, Colorado. Exhibit showing at the Gilpin County Library
Roger Doak is an award winning photographer born in upstate New York who moved to Colorado as a young boy. Living in the scenic beauty of the Gunnison area he developed a profound appreciation of nature. Roger’s enjoyment of nature proved to be the impetus of his passion for photography. In 2005, he received two first place finishes in a photo competition as judged by esteemed photographer, John Fielder. The Gilpin Eagles Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity play a non-league game against Lake County

The long road from Poland to fulfill a dream

Aleksandra (Sandra) Zapala was raised in Poland, one of six children. She married her husband who was a coal miner in the late 60’s. Mr. Zapala’s brother had come to work in America, so was able to join him in 1977. Sandra was left with her family in Poland until she was able to join her husband. Mr. Zapala was working at the Redstone Coal Mine between Glenwood Springs and Aspen. Originally, he had planned to bring his wife, Sandra, 11 year old son, and 8 year old (more…)
April 15, 1955 – December 25, 2019
Harvey Merle McCollum passed away on Christmas Day 2019, in Hotchkiss, CO. He was born in Rollinsville, CO, to parents Donald and Roberta McCollum. He spent his childhood roaming the mountains and foothills of the Front Range while attending the small elementary school in Rollinsville.
Harvey attended the Nederland Middle Senior High School through ninth grade and then attended a Vo-Tech program for mechanics. After a year, he proceeded to on-the-job training with (more…)
