    October 17, 1941 – March 16, 2021

    Jack Thompson passed away in Spokane, WA on March 16, 2021. He was born in Chappell, NE to Lloyd and Alice Thompson on October 17, 1941.  After he graduated high school he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served on the USS Ranger (CVA-61) for four years and loved it! He and his brothers got special permission from the Navy to serve on the carrier at the same time. While he served, he studied biology, and took wood/metal shop classes and was an Aviation Mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1965. (more…)

    With her husband and children at her side, our sweet Katherine passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at her home in Evergreen, Colorado. Katherine was tender and loving, forgiving, a caring mother, dog lover, strong with no complaints, and the most loving, giving wife any man could ask for. Katherine’s spirit shined brightly and could light up a room—often entering by announcing her arrival, exclaiming, “♫ dun-da-da-dah! ♫” (more…)

    In late 1871, J.C. Fisher opened the new Black Hawk Roller Skating Rink on the corner of Gregory and Church Streets. The location was, perhaps conveniently, one door east of Dr. W.H. Rice’s office. Admission to the rink was initially twenty-five cents while the use of roller skates was an additional quarter, but this was eventually dropped in favor of a fifty-cent admission fee that included the use of skates. Tony has spent the last 28 years sharing his talents and leadership with Gilpin youth both at the school and at the Community Center coaching Middle School Basketball, Football, Baseball and Little League Baseball.
