Gilpin scores an ace against Cornerstone and Miami-Yoder

The Lady Eagles were busy last week, as they met with four opponents in tough matches. The team did well at home but lost two away games. Their record is now 9-5.
Battle with the Bulldogs
An enthusiastic crowd witnessed Gilpin leashing the Cornerstone Christian Bulldogs 3-0 in an October 3 home conference game. Set scores were 25/19, 25/7, and 25/8.
Andi Ramsey led the Eagles in kills with 8, followed by Stephanie Siegrist with 5 and Kim Wulf-Balosch with 3.
Ashlen Cortez showed her power with 7 serving aces. Ramsey and Alyssa Chareunsouk each contributed 2 aces.
Several Eagle team members got digs: Ramsey and Siegrist each had 4, Cortez, Balosch, and Sierra Planch had 3 apiece, Alexis Kennedy had 2, and Chareunsouk and Sarah Baisley one each.
Cortez was the leader in ball handling assists with 15.
Ramsey had 11 in serving received success, followed by Siegrist and Balosch both with 4.
The junior varsity also won their match with Cornerstone 2-0, with set scores of 25/11 and 25/16.
Match against Miami-Yoder
Gilpin triumphed once again in a match with Miami-Yoder October 5 in home non-conference play. The final score was 3-0; set scores were 25/9, 25/10, and 25/15.
Kills were fairly evenly spread among the Eagle teammates. Ramsey had 5, Siegrist and Planck each had 4, and Kelsi Buhr, Cortez, and Balosch each had 3.
Again, everyone helped with serving aces, Balosch leading with 3 and Cortez with 2. Burh, Ramsey, Chareunsouk, Baisley, and Planck each got their turn with one.
The team had a total of 25 digs; leading were Cortez and Balosch with 7 apiece.
Cortez had 15 ball handling assists.
Serving received success was 16; Baisley was the leader with 7.
Game with Longmont Christian
The Eagles were disappointed in their away non-conference game against Longmont Christian October 4. The score was 0-3, and set scores were 20/25, 16/25, and 19/25.
Ramsey and Siegrist were leaders in kills for Gilpin with 4 each, followed by Buhr with 3. Chareunsouk, Cortez, and Balosch each managed 2 serving aces, with Ramsey getting one. Ramsey also had one solo block, and she and Buhr each made one block assist.
The digs were as follows: Ramsey, 11; Balosch, 10; Siegrist, 8; Chareunsouk, 7; Cortez, 6; Baisley, 4; Planck, 2; and Buhr, one.
Cortez had 11 ball handling assists.
Leaders in serving received success were Ramsey with 15, Chareunsouk with 14, and Balosch with 9.
Skirmish with Belleview Christian
The Eagles suffered a loss 2-3 in a hard-fought conference battle against Belleview Christian away October 1. The five set scores were 25/14, 15/25, 22/25, 25/17, and 11/15.
Siegrist was the leader for the Eagles this time in kills with 11, followed by Ramsey with 9 and Planck with 4.
Cortez held her own with 5 serving aces; Ramsey contributed 4, and Balosch 2. The Eagles had a total of 11 aces.
Ramsey had 2 solo blocks and Buhr one.
Belleview had an amazing 119 digs, while Gilpin managed 65. Leaders were Cortez, 13; Chareunsouk and Balosch, 12 each; Siegrist, 10; Planck, 9; and Ramsey, 8.
Cortez had 24 ball handling assists.
In serving received success, Chareunsouk was first for Gilpin with 16, then Ramsey with 15, Balosch with 13, Siegrist with 9, and Planck with 6.
