The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has frustrated and insulted its own people to the point is has lost respect and credibility with they very people it is trying to honor. Artists W. Max Thomason & Walter Barton at the Washington Hall Gallery

The Gilpin County Arts Association brings artists Walter Barton and W. Max Thomason with their life size sculptures and oil works to Central City. The title of the showing is, “Just Between Us.” Both artists are formerly trained and have established themselves as influential creatives in Colorado. Opening reception is February 23rd, from 5 pm to 8 pm and running through May 3rd 2019, at Washington Hall. (more…)
June 17, 1956 – February 10, 2019
Mark Steven Smith of Nederland passed away of cancer at the Boulder Community Hospital on February 10, 2019. He was born on June 17, 1956, to Micheal B. Smith and Jeannette McDonald Smith.
He attended Nederland High School and was a Boulder County Road Supervisor. Mark was raised in Nederland, the second oldest son of the Smith family, son of a miner, and brother to two sisters and three brothers.
He married Ressa Lively Smith on August 27, 1985, at Mark’s grandmother’s house on West First Street. (more…)
30 years ago – February 24, 1989
For the past two years, the Gilpin County Historical Society has suffered an annual loss of approximately $1,500 on the operation of Black Hawk’s Lace House. Unless things turn around this year, the historic structure may be closed to the public next year, according to Historical Society President Bonnie Merchant. Seniors recognized for participation in winter sports

Gilpin Eagles varsity basketball teams celebrated Senior Night on Friday, February 8 by hosting the Dawson School Mustangs of Lafayette in a conference showdown. Gilpin boys conquered their opponents 44-27. The girls took a 39-26 loss to Dawson. The Lady Eagles have had a difficult season, but continue to play courageously. (more…)
May 23, 1987 – December 25, 2018
In the final week of 2018, we were shocked with the sudden passing of a courageous leader in the Hip Hop Community, Noah Theeman Lindberg, better known in the dance community as “Poppin Agenda.” Born in Denver, May 23, 1987 to Reed Lindberg and Marge Theeman, Noah died of smoke inhalation when his quiet cabin in Gilpin County burned on December 25, 2018. Fathers and daughters enjoy a special night out

This years’ Father-Daughter Valentine’s Ball saw unicorns floating from the ceiling and balloons sprouting from tables adorned with colorful tablecloths and sweet Valentine treats. The Gilpin County Recreation Center hosted the annual event on Saturday, February 8, from 6-8 p.m. The evening started out on the right foot including a menu sure to please partygoers of all ages. At Horsetooth Mountain Open Space

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers, working with Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, are investigating a mountain lion attack on a trail runner using the West Ridge Trail at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space on Monday, Feb. 4. The victim was able to defend himself from the attack, resulting in the death of the juvenile mountain lion. The runner was then able to (more…)
