Gilpin Veterans Memorial Day Ceremony Saturday, May 19

On Saturday morning, May 19th at 11:00 am, the American Legion Post 166 and VFW Post 7563 will hold the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Gilpin Veteran’s Memorial, at the Gilpin Community Center, and a dedication of the newly inscribed Veteran’s bricks that are set at the Memorial. Everyone is invited, please come out and remember our Veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country and freedoms. (more…)

Frank Hall was born March 4, 1836 in Poughkeesie, Dutchess County, New York. Three years later, his father died and Frank went to live with family in Litchfield County, Connecticut. For the next five years, he attended common school before returning to New York and enrolling at Kingston Academy. After two and a half years at Kingston, he moved to Syracuse, NY. (more…)

Itchy Trigger Fingers at Council Work Session

The Central City Council met with Staff on April 3, 2018, for a work session prior to the regular council meeting. Topics of discussion were the Wild Bunch Gang and some other miscellaneous items. A New Documentary including Georgetown

We’ve traveled across the United States visiting ghost town after ghost town in an effort to visually preserve their histories and legends. Each town had its own tales of ghosts, spirits and hauntings that we’ve put together in our new feature film “Ghosts in Ghost Towns: Haunting the Wild West.” Georgetown is featured in the film as we visited several locations like the Hamill House and conducted an investigation at the Hotel De Paris. On March 14, 2018, Edward Roy Lewandowski laid his single jack to rest on earth to search for the riches in heaven.He always looked forward to joining his wife Elaine, who pre-deceased him. Left behind, but not without the memories of both their parents, are EJ, Gary & Karen, their spouses, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Council meets for regular meeting

Work Session
The Central City Council met with Staff on February 20, 2018, for a work session prior to the regular council meeting. The topic of conversation was a Gaps Analysis of Emergency Services presented by Dan Qualman of ESCI (Emergency Services Consulting International). The City has long known their firefighting resources are being stretched thin with age and hired an independent third party to conduct an analysis based on 2016 figures. (more…)

Born January 27, 1822, to Seth and Retsey (Thayer) Gambell, in Richard County, Ohio, Alfred D. Gambell grew to manhood on his parent’s farm and attended the local school.
In 1844, when he was twenty-two years old, he made his way to the shores of Lake Erie and secured a job on a steamer, later temporarily locating in Buffalo, New York. He traveled extensively in the Midwest and New England before securing a position in 1847 on a whaler bound for the Arctic regions. One year later, he returned to the United States, soon after securing passage aboard a ship bound for California by way of the Horn. (more…)
