Football or fluff?

Lingerie Football caught my eye in 2004 when it was offered as a Super Bowl halftime entertainment alternative. Taken as seriously as the Puppy Bowl, it nonetheless grabbed male viewers’ attention. Combining two of men’s favorite interests of scantily clad women playing football sporting lacey bras, panties, and garter belts seemed to be a can’t miss concept, and Lingerie Bowls II and III were aired the following years. Never without its critics citing blatant objectification, the third Lingerie Bowl was the last of the series. (more…)

To the Pike’s Peak Country in 1859 on the Smoky Hill Route – Part I
Henry Villard was a young newspaper correspondent who joined the Pike’s Peak gold rush early in 1859. The article presented here was his first story to his newspaper, the Cincinnati Daily Commercial, and appeared June 3, 1859. It was dated “Denver City, Mouth of Cherry Creek, May 17, 1859.” (more…)

Heading for college is the next stop on the road to success

Gilpin High School’s salutatorian takes this admonition literally. Nick Raez and his family have moved frequently during Nick’s 18 years of life. As I spoke with him the other day about his school success and his future plans, Nick shared some insights about how living in different parts of the country can teach a person about human nature. Max Marr Spartan Classic
It was a beautiful day in Berthoud on Saturday, April 15 for the non-conference Max Marr Spartan Classic Meet. Gilpin High School’s track athletes did a great job of competing, according to Coach Craig Ball. This meet was one of the largest that they have participated in, with a total of 22 schools. (more…)

Annual Easter egg hunts hosted by Gilpin County Community Center and Lady Elks

GCCC Hunt and Egg Diving
Dozens of eggs-cited kids and their parents hopped over to the Gilpin County Community Center (GCCC) on Wednesday evening, April 12, for the annual Easter egg hunt and diving party. Volunteers guided the children in various activities, from crafting traditional Easter bags to trying out the bounce house or playing various games in the gym. (more…)
