Richard “Dick” Eugene Kroeckel Jr., was born in Indianapolis, Indiana into a family of piano players. Dick was taught to play piano by his aunt and quickly found his calling in ragtime. He started playing professionally in Evergreen, Colorado and soon became part of the Central City Colorado Summer Fun, playing at the historic Tollgate and Glory Hole Bars. Due to wildfire threat caused by severe drought and wind

Due to unprecedented and historic fire conditions, the USDA Forest Service’s Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests is announcing a temporary closure of all National Forest land in Clear Creek, Jefferson, Gilpin, Boulder, and Larimer counties, effective at midnight tonight, Oct. 21. This decision will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change. (more…)

For Gilpin County Commissioner
PRESS RELEASE – Doug Lupo, running for District 3 Commissioner on the Republican ticket, has lived on Wagon Wheel Trail in Gilpin County for eight years. He did most of his school years abroad and in Virginia, was a 60th Session graduate of the Northern Virginia State Police Academy, and is a 12-year Army Veteran. Lupo worked in executive management for 13 years including hotel, retail, restaurant and bar management. Exploring in Gilpin and Clear Creek counties

Our friends Ron and Becky drove their Jeep Wrangler down to Gilpin County from Madison, WI for another off-road adventure with us. They rented a nice little cabin on the Casey Road in Central City that they referred to as the “cliff-hanger” cabin, and we planned out our weekend trips at the Dostal Alley Friday evening. (more…)
