Locals rely on their furry friends to fill social void

During the pandemic, folks have been staying home more than usual. As such, feelings of loneliness have become worse than ever before. Besides family, pets have also helped Gilpin residents remain positive during the pandemic. Archer O’Brien, Cassidy Wood, and Aucklynn Sacco have relied on their dogs for fun times and as a much-needed quarantine buddy. (more…)

Virgina Unseld, a well-known Gilpin County artist, has a new show opening at the Gilpin County Arts Association Washington Hall Gallery in Central City on February 20th. “Navigations: a year of quARanTine,” gives voice to her explorations of a world closed to wandering, a world restricted to her own backyard, photos, and imagination. Gilpin County High School Eagles

High School basketball faced a late start this 2020-2021 season due to constraints stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic. Covid protocols in compliance with Federal and State mandates were adopted at the Gilpin County School level and by the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA), which directs high school athletics competition. Colorado High School teams were not allowed to begin CHSAA competitions until late in January of 2021. This resulted in a flurry of games (more…)

Gilpin after-school program for ages 11-18

Commissioners declare February as Black History Month

After a work session with State representatives Tammy Story and Judy Amabile on upcoming State legislations, and another work session about parking on County roads, the Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners got to work tackling issues such as the supplement to 2021 budget for costs associated with the County’s vaccination plan, a discussion concerning the Clear Creek/ Gilpin County shooting range joint venture, and an update on the Human Services/ Public Health building renovation. While In-Person Attendance Increases

On January 19th at 7:03 pm, the first meeting Gilpin County School Board in 2021 was called to order amid a pandemic which has affected education in the last year in ways no one ever fathomed. The school district has gone from remote teaching, to a blended combination of remote and in-person learning.
