Featuring Vince Herman & friends

They say that it is more blessed to give than receive, and local musician Vince Herman just keeps giving.
Saturday night at The Caribou Room in Nederland, Vince was joined by several of his closest friends – and after national success with Leftover Salmon and decades spent entertaining, Vince has a lot of friends. Family Dog String Band got things rolling with a tight set of bluegrass. Charlie Rose picked on banjo and Vince’s son Silas delivered on mandolin. A Colorado staple for thirty-three years and having also achieved widespread acclaim, guitarist Chris Daniels joined Vince at center stage. The horn section of Chris’ band The Kings executed a deft rendition of Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4.” Vocalist Freddi Gowdy added impassioned depth while performing Stevie Wonders’ “Superstition.” Santana fans got their money’s worth with “Black Magic Woman” and “Oye Como Va.” “When the Saints Go Marching In,” and “Play That Funky Music (White Boy)” made the eclectic play list as did the Temptations’ “Shakey Ground.” “Jingle Bells” got everyone into the holiday mood but it was the lyrics of “My Girl” that embodied the spirit of the show; “I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day. When it’s cold outside, I’ve got the month of May.” Wrapping up the concert to a gratified audience, Vince sang: “I wanna wish you a merry Christmas, I wanna wish you a merry Christmas, I wanna wish you a merry Christmas, from the bottom of my heart. Feliz navidad, Feliz navidad, Feliz navidad, Prospero ano y felicidad.”
