Track squad participates in Ram Charger meet

Gilpin High School’s baseball team prevailed 5-4 over the Mustangs of Denver Academy (DA) in a conference game on April 23. The game was played at Denver Academy, with Gilpin listed as the home team. The Eagles have improved their record to 2-6, both wins coming in league play. Denver Academy holds a 2-5 tally for league games. DA’s overall record is 6-8, so Gilpin’s victory over the stronger team was especially satisfying for the Eagles.
Gilpin scored runs in 3 of the innings and garnered 6 hits. The five Gilpin players who came in with runs were Angel Gomez, Dallas LeBeau, Chad Holmes, Cooper Lindberg, and Blaizun Diamond. Gomez and Will Lorenz got 2 hits each, and Gomez claimed 1 RBI. Holmes led the team in stolen bases with 3 of 9 total.
In fielding, Blake Boulter was tops for the Eagles with 12. LeBeau contributed 3 assists.
Lorenz was the winning pitcher, striking out 14 batters in 3 innings. LeBeau also pitched, maintaining Gilpin’s lead with a save for the winners.
Gilpin suffered a 14-1 loss to Dayspring Christian Academy of Greeley on April 25. Lorenz scored the Eagles’ run on a hit by Cooper Lindberg.
Track and Field at Lakewood
Gilpin’s track team hit the lanes at the non-conference “Ram Charger Invite” Meet on Saturday, April 27 at Lakewood. Eagles boys finished 24th of 31 teams, with Pueblo East finishing 1st. The girls’ team did not place; however, Nicole Adams earned 9th position in the high jump with a height of 4’8”. Colorado Springs’ Classical Academy took the 1st place title for the girls.
