Audiences delighted by Peak to Peak Players’ performances of Little Mermaid Jr.by Patty Unruh
Life is the bubbles under the sea. But if you happen to be a teen mermaid, and you try to check out life in the human realm, the waters can get choppy. Of course, that oceanic conflict made for a great story in “Little Mermaid Jr.,” presented last Friday, November 16, and Saturday, November 17, by Peak to Peak Players in the Gilpin County School auditorium. HawkQuest presents raptors to Gilpin audience

The more than 40 folks of all ages who came to HawkQuest Saturday, November 17 at Christ the King Community Church, came away with a deeper understanding of the birds of prey in Colorado. The HawkQuest presentation helped us realize the things we can do to preserve the amazingly well equipped birds’ habitat which included being respectful of the environment we share, along with simply picking up trash. We were reminded that in creation, God asked the people to take care of the animals. (more…)

Barbara Lawlor remembered
June 7, 1942 – November 3, 2018Barbara Lawlor of Nederland, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Barbara was a resident of Nederland and had worked at The Mountain-Ear newspaper for more than 36 years, and for the Weekly Register-Call at one time.
She was a beloved mother, sister, friend and colleague and will be dearly missed by all. (more…) -

A Taste of Broadway
“Peak to Peak Players” brings a cabaret show to Gilpin by Patty Unruh
There’s always magic in the air on Broadway. There was quite a bit of it in the air in Gilpin County, too, on Saturday, October 20, as the Peak to Peak Players strutted their stuff to an appreciative audience at the Gilpin School auditorium. Election forum draws crowd of Gilpin residents

At least 100 Gilpin County voters turned out at the Gilpin Community Center last Saturday morning, October 13, for an election forum. The audience heard the qualifications and positions of 11 candidates for the following Gilpin County offices: Board of County Commissioners, Sheriff, Assessor, Clerk and Recorder, and Treasurer. Variety was key at the Gilpin County Middle and High School fall concert on Thursday, October 11. Band and choir members were directed by music teacher Randi Ebers. Construction begins at Devil’s Nose Shooting Range
Near Idaho SpringsConstruction is beginning on the Devil’s Nose Shooting Range along Colo. Highway 103 near Idaho Springs, and new restrictions are in place for the duration of construction activities.
