$1 million in new gaming fees will be decided by Black Hawk voters in November

This fall, Black Hawk voters will decide if the city should grab a slice of the sports-betting pie. If they approve, the city will gobble up an estimated $1,050,000 in new taxes from sports betting and other types of gaming that were approved by Colorado voters two years ago. Frances Magdalen (Melchiors) Etzkorn died Friday, August 6, 2021 after a long-term illness. She was born May 28, 1940 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Her family moved several times, eventually ending up in Wayzata, Minnesota where she graduated from Wayzata High School in 1958. Gilpin Library Summer reading program

Libraries support reading all summer when school is out. Gilpin Library’s summer reading program ran from June 1- August 4, called Tails and Tales. Gilpin had 140+ preschool to adult readers sign up for the reading program by age groups; babies and preschool, kindergarten-5th grade, 6th grade to high school and adults. Each age group picked up a Tails and Tales game board. Library staff have seen that all game boards are at various levels of completion, as of Wednesday, August 4, 2021. (more…)

Gilpin community gathers together for some old-fashioned fun

Gloomy skies greeted the early light of morning on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Through the gloom, vendors hastily set up booths, equestrians exercised their horses, shepherds watched over their sheep, and emergency personnel assembled.
