Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons in the revolutionary army, another had two sons captured. It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that Judy Grant, our Board Chair, passed away on June 15, 2020. Judy served on the Central City Opera Board of Directors since 2002 and assumed the Chairmanship in 2018. She was a gracious representative of the organization in all she did. She loved to show off all that Central City Opera had to offer and we were lucky to have her dedication and commitment guiding this organization. She was a dear friend who will be greatly missed. Gilpin Elementary teachers ready to try new adventures

With Gilpin school year 2019-2020 officially over, teachers are making future plans. While many teachers are staying at Gilpin schools, Monica Rhul and Chloe Devore are unfortunately leaving. Both elementary teachers, Rhul taught Montessori 1st-3rd grades and Devore taught 1st grade. Rhul started working at Gilpin as a full-time teacher in August of 2015. Ready for action! Began phased reopening this week
Mardi Gras, Golden Gulch, and Golden Gates casinos will begin their phased-in reopening on Wednesday, June 17. All properties will open under restrictions, including a change in hours of operation, total capacity, limited dining options and gaming options as well as health and safety precautions for all players, guests and employees. From army cutworms to flying up the mountains in Colorado

The first army cutworms I saw this year were falling from masses of caterpillar web nests high in the cottonwood trees along the San Pedro River in Arizona, mid-April, very normal. There were tons of caterpillars everywhere. About 2 inches long, light grey with a brilliant blue strip front to back on both sides. (more…)

PRESS RELEASE – Sandy Hollingsworth announces her candidacy for Gilpin County Commissioner District 3. Sandy has lived in Colorado for 37 years, 22 of them in Gilpin County with her husband Larry. Visitors to Colorado’s premier gaming resort destination are welcome back starting June 17th

Machine gaming can officially return to Black Hawk on June 17th following a variance submitted by Gilpin County and approved by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
