Tuesday, April 4th Election Results

While Gilpin County relaxed in the relative quiet of fresh falling snow, Central City finalized an election for a vacant Council seat. In a domino falling fashion, Mayor Ron Engels was elected as County Commissioner last November; and then Mayor Pro-tempore Kathy Heider was internally elected Mayor for Central City vacating her Council seat. Gilpin Community Center hosts Dr. Camarata supporters

Playing to a full house on Sunday afternoon, State Representative KC Becker addressed multiple issues affecting Gilpin County and Boulder County residents ranging from Black Hawk and Central City to as far north as Ward. The Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation has prepared a very helpful document to assist historic researchers find vital information of old buildings. An owner of a historic house or building might be encouraged to obtain a National, State, or local Historic designation. When such occurs, the significance of this property is recognized, and it also establishes eligibility for various grants and tax credit programs. (more…)

March 25, a day set aside to honor our nation’s most decorated war heroes, Medal of Honor recipients. The Medal of Honor is the highest military honor the nation can bestow, an example of the respect given, officers salute those who wear it. Beauty and the Beast movie review

The third of what promises to be a long line of “live” action films based on animated originals recently opened, but is it worth your time spending money on a story you have already seen? “The Jungle Book,” which was the most recent (preceded by “Cinderella”) in this current series to be “livened” by Disney Studios, was done extremely well and even nominated for an Academy Award for its special effects. This time around “Beauty and the Beast” gets its real adaptation. (more…)
