Central City Creepy Crawl

The ghosts of past residents are haunting the historic town of Central City. Scarlet Rose, Professor John Morrissey, Elizabeth Court Tabor, and others have been seen inhabiting the Teller House, the Opera House, Baby Doe’s Casino, and Doc Holliday’s. They don’t seem to be here to harm any mortals, but they do appear eager to share their stories. (more…)

Football Victory over Hayden
The Gilpin H.S. Eagles football team put a tiger in their tank – the Hayden Tigers football team, that is – on October 14, coming away with a 36-0 win in the away conference contest. Gilpin holds a 4-3 overall record, 2-1 in league action. Hayden is 3-4 overall and 1-2 league. (more…)

PRESS RELEASE – A California man suspected of leaving a homemade explosive outside a police station in a small Colorado mountain town was arrested after being spotted on surveillance video from a store where he bought a cellphone used in the device, two law enforcement officials said Monday. Alonzo Nelson Allen was born in 1820 to John and Anna (Greenleaf) Allen on a farm near Seneca, New York. A quiet man, hard of hearing, he rarely discussed his early years. In his twenties, he relocated to Ohio and later to Columbus, Wisconsin where he farmed and operated a mill. (more…)
Joint meeting with County seals the deal

National concerns regarding police brutality and lethal force will not be coming to Central City anytime soon. As of January 1, 2017, Central City will no longer have a police force protecting its fine citizens; instead, dedicated county deputies will be patrolling the area and keeping us safe. (more…)

The Gilpin H.S. Eagles football squad was close to pulling off a win against the Soroco Rams last Saturday, October 8. But as they say, “close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.” Dreams of victory blew up in a disappointing 20-14 overtime loss, but the Eagles made their stronger competitors work for every point. Every resident will vote for both District 1 and District 3 candidates

About 80 people turned out at the Gilpin Community Center last Saturday afternoon, October 1, for an election forum. The audience heard the qualifications and positions of the six candidates for the Board of County Commissioners. Top issues included transportation, medical services, whether or not to diversify apart from the gaming industry, and accessibility to county facilities and to the commissioners themselves. (more…)
Lady Eagles’ volleyball clips two Eagle opponents
