Last car show of the summer brings out all the cool cars

I always look forward to the first Saturday of the month in the summer so that I can drive down the hill and check out all the cool cars and trucks that attend from all over the Denver metro area. Gilpin youth learn about the number one killer of teens

Four teens in a car cruise around the parking area behind the school building. Good kids, just having fun. The driver, messing around, sends the car into a drift near a slope created by recent excavation. Disastrously, it careens over the edge, rolls, and crashes into a car driven by a school administrator. After a few moments of silent shock, the grim reality becomes apparent that six lives have been forever changed by a split-second reckless decision. (more…)

The Gilpin High School football team smashed the Belleview (Westminster) Bruins 54-0 on September 23 on Belleview’s turf. The Eagles now sport a 3-1 overall record; the matchup was a disappointing loss for the Bruins in their first season game. (more…)

Sometimes events don’t always turn out the way that we think they should. Folks plan, but circumstances have a way of diverting us in an entirely different direction. Car maintenance and restoration is no different. You start off rotating the tires and end up installing new brakes which can turn into a $600 job if you want to do it yourself. Central City Council Approves Gregory Street Paving Project

The Central City Council met with staff for a work session on the pending end of the marijuana licensing moratorium. The temporary suspension ends November 30, 2017 and the Council needs to give direction regarding changes to current code or staying with the current rule. Community Development Director Ray Rears presented a report to the Council from City Staff regarding this issue with four things to consider. (more…)

Volleyball v. Warriors and Falcons
The Gilpin High School Lady Eagles varsity team faced two teams last week that were slightly younger and less experienced than Gilpin. The Eagles came out on top in home conference play against the Longmont Christian Warriors (LC) on Tuesday, September 12, winning 3-0. Two nights later, on the 14th, Gilpin traveled to play the Front Range Christian Falcons (FR) of Littleton, again scoring a 3-0 victory. (more…)
