    Linda May Jones passed away on March 27, 2019. She was born in El Dorado Kansas, November 9, 1937, to Edith Heck Carlson and Forrest Edward Carlson. She had an older brother, Edward, also known as Buster. Linda grew up in Kansas, graduating high school from Harper High.She attended Kansas University, where she met her first husband, and with whom she had three children: Chris Dale Conard, Carin Dene’ Lockhart, and Curtis Dean Conard (all still alive and well). She later married Verl Jones and the two were happily wed for (more…)

    Christopher Mark Bleske-Good of Black Hawk passed away on March 25, 2019, in Black Hawk. He was born on February 8, 1997, in Royal Oak, MI, to father James Good and mother Theresa Bleske (Schemers).   During his life, he also lived in Madison Heights, MI; Washington, MI; Tempe, AZ, and Central City, CO.     Don Lee Olhausen was born July 13, 1949. “Don O” died December 20, 2018 after a 10-year struggle with early onset Alzheimers.He was the only child of Erna and Henry “Heinie” Olhausen from Hartley and Arnold’s Park, Iowa who preceded him in death. Don is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Fonseca, his children: Donda Gorton and Drew Olhausen as well as three stepdaughters: Kenna Norton, Amanda Norton-Schaal and Alexis Fonseca-Chavez. (more…)

    The Gilpin County Education Foundation (GCEF) held its largest scholarship fundraising dinner ever last Saturday evening, March 16, at the Ameristar Resort and Casino. 103 people attended and raised $15,000 for student scholarships.     The city of Boulder, CO, has set an ambitious goal of recycling 85 % of its annual waste by the year 2025. Trash the Runway (formally called Recycled Runway), now in its 10th year, is part of the movement that raises awareness and promotes the reuse of items that would otherwise end up in the landfill. Turning trash into high fashion garments would seem an unlikely use of garbage, but that is exactly what forty-two middle and high school students did recently.
