Volleyball fans dig Lady Eagle wins against Kiowa, Heritage Christian

Gridiron Action
The Gilpin High School varsity football team pushed past the Soroco Rams of Oak Creek 48-40 on October 6 in a conference game on the Rams’ field. The Gilpin Eagles are having a good season, with a 5-1 overall record to date. The Eagles are second in the Northwest 8-man football league behind undefeated West Grand, whom they will visit on October 27. Soroco is now third, with a 4-2 record. (more…)
Visitors’ Center Showcase Gallery Hosts New Art Exhibit
It doesn’t take much awareness to note the changing seasons in Gilpin County. Leaf peepers abound to enjoy the fall colors and residents have already needed to use snow removal equipment.
On the second floor of the Central City Visitors’ Center, “A Change of Seasons” is also noted. This new exhibit features painter John Cieraszynski; photographer Gale Gatto; and silversmith Tom Cowherd. (more…)

The Central City Council met with Staff on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 for a work session prior to the regular council meeting. The topics of conversation were the future of the Central City Fire Department, a change to the trash and recycling fee, and a review of the sign code. (more…)
Last car show of the summer brings out all the cool cars

I always look forward to the first Saturday of the month in the summer so that I can drive down the hill and check out all the cool cars and trucks that attend from all over the Denver metro area. Sadly, this was bittersweet this time as it is the last one for the season, just barely beating the snow storm that rolled through the area Sunday night. (more…)
Gilpin youth learn about the number one killer of teens

Four teens in a car cruise around the parking area behind the school building. Good kids, just having fun. The driver, messing around, sends the car into a drift near a slope created by recent excavation. Disastrously, it careens over the edge, rolls, and crashes into a car driven by a school administrator. After a few moments of silent shock, the grim reality becomes apparent that six lives have been forever changed by a split-second reckless decision. (more…)

Eagles crush Belleview Bruins 54-0 in football

The Gilpin High School football team smashed the Belleview (Westminster) Bruins 54-0 on September 23 on Belleview’s turf. The Eagles now sport a 3-1 overall record; the matchup was a disappointing loss for the Bruins in their first season game. (more…)

Central City Council Approves Gregory Street Paving Project

Work Session
The Central City Council met with staff for a work session on the pending end of the marijuana licensing moratorium. The temporary suspension ends November 30, 2017 and the Council needs to give direction regarding changes to current code or staying with the current rule. Community Development Director Ray Rears presented a report to the Council from City Staff regarding this issue with four things to consider. (more…)

Volleyball v. Warriors and Falcons
The Gilpin High School Lady Eagles varsity team faced two teams last week that were slightly younger and less experienced than Gilpin. The Eagles came out on top in home conference play against the Longmont Christian Warriors (LC) on Tuesday, September 12, winning 3-0. Two nights later, on the 14th, Gilpin traveled to play the Front Range Christian Falcons (FR) of Littleton, again scoring a 3-0 victory. (more…)
