Featuring the Choir and Band

Last Thursday, March 5th, Gilpin School held one of their seasonal concerts – the Spring Concert. Featuring the middle school choir and middle/ high school band, the event started at 7 pm in the auditorium. Lady Eagles progress to Regional playoffs

The Eagles boys’ varsity basketball season came to a close with their loss to the Dawson Mustangs in the Division 7 playoffs. It has been a challenging season for the boy’s team with a record of 4 wins to 16 losses. November 10, 1938 – February 16, 2020
Priscilla Robin Hooks (Pat), a long-time resident of Gilpin County, passed peacefully on February 16th to join her husband James for eternal life with the Lord. Her love, laughter, and humor will be truly missed by her six children; Marilyn (Greg), Rhonda, Cindy (Tim),Linda (Rusty), Joanne (Larry), and Jim. She adored her 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She will forever be loved and missed by all.

Paul Stephen Coleman, educator, husband, father, prankster and friend, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2020 with his wife Judy at his side. Paul was the consummate teacher of life lessons, book studies, physical fitness, mechanics of every kind, common sense, and thoughtful decisions. He encouraged those around him to think before they speak or act. He was actively involved in Boy Scouts both as a scout and a scout master. Mindy Wales was born in New York City and grew up in Queens, New York. At the age of 19 she moved to Colorado and became a long-time resident of Gilpin County. She owned and operated an old time photo studio called “Mr. Yellow Bellows” in Central City forabout 10 years. She was a loving mother of two sons, Cody and Wyatt. During the last five years of her life, Mindy had a long fight with Metastatic Lung Cancer. The memorial service will be held on Sunday March 1st, at 2 pm at The Caribou Room, (more…)
March 8, 1951 – February 16, 2020
Steven Vidyaran Hanson, 68, a longtime resident of Pinecliffe, Colorado, died on February 16, 2020 of cancer. Born in Oakland, California on March 8, 1951 to Robert Carl Hanson and Margaret Bremner, Steve attended Flatirons Elementary School, Baseline Junior High, and Boulder High School. Steve worked as a chef on the Big Island of Hawaii in the early 1970s, then at the Broker Inn in Boulder. He made the most exquisite hollandaise sauce, and once earned a standing ovation from the brunch guests at a mountain eatery who had watched him prepare (more…)
