Profiling the game plan in Colorado

In November, Colorado voters approved Amendment 77 and allowed voters in Colorado’s gaming towns, Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek, the ability to increase maximum bets above the state’s $100 limit and add new games beyond slots, blackjack, poker, roulette and craps. With Historical Photographs in Vacant Storefront Windows

You may have seen some interesting developments taking place in some of the vacant storefront windows in the downtown Central City area. Instead of vacant windows staring back at the frequent guests, now there will be large historic photos displayed that are pertinent to that building. Council approves Golden Gilpin Mill expansion of gold ore milling operations

Black Hawk City Council held their first Regular online meeting of 2021 on January 13, 2021. Highlights of that meeting include a Restated Option and Lease Agreement with Vertical Bridge Development, LLC for the Installation and Maintenance of a Cellular Tower Facility on City Property on Miners Mesa, a Resolution Conditionally Approving the Golden Gilpin Mill Site Minor Subdivision, and boatload of agreements for professional services. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shelby Nicole Nation Allen. Shelby was born on February 7, 1993 in Atlanta GA and passed away on December 11, 2020 at the age of 27 in her hometown of Central City, CO. She attended Nederland High School. Shelby was a graduate of the University of Colorado where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrated Physiology. Shelby worked several jobs after college: physical therapist, volleyball coach, 911 operator, victims advocate, and volunteer fire fighter. Shelby loved to help people and each (more…)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cody Robert Allen. Cody was born on May 24, 1991 in Wheat Ridge, CO and passed away on December 11, 2020 at the age of 29 in his hometown of Central City, CO. Cody was an amazing human. He was kind, honest, and hardworking. He was always willing to help his family and friends and was active in his community. John Chadwick “Bert” Bertram, 88, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 23, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Las Vegas with the Rev. James Jankowski officiating. There will be a military graveside service this summer in Denver, Colorado. Bert was born December 22, 1932 at 12:22 pm in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Russell and Esther (Carlen) Bertram. Christina Diane Bellamy died at only 28 years old on December 18, 2020 in Bennett, Colorado in the home of Steven Shilo Christiansen and his mom Vicki Lampel who were also in the home at the time of death. Cause of death is suspicious, and cause is pending investigation. Christina was born to Terry and Diane Bellamy April 17, 1992 in Colorado. She graduated from High School in Jefferson County, but attended one semester at Gilpin County RE-1 while living with her uncle, aunt, and cousins. She received (more…)

Long time Gilpin resident Sally Walsh passed away on January 4th, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Sally grew up in Whitman, West Virginia. Her first nine years of childhood growing up in the Great Depression as well as World War II certainly must have been a challenge. She graduated from High School and moved to Chicago where she met and married Bob. She and her husband Bob first purchased land in Gilpin County in 1976 and starting building their home. Sports Shooting Park approved with Clear Creek County partnership
