Gilpin teams take losses to Lake County

Gilpin High School’s varsity boys and girls basketball teams hosted the South Park Burros (Fairplay) on Friday, December 14 in non-league play. The boys triumphed with a 46-35 win over their opponents, while the girls were handed a tough 49-20 loss. (more…)

Roy’s Last Shot Restaurant Customer Appreciation Day began at 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 16th, in mid-Gilpin on Hwy 119. The parking lot was overflowing full, while inside festive cheer, merriment and thrilling wonder danced in the eyes of children while neighbors and friends were comfortably, enjoying sunny skies in nearly 50 degree weather for those out on the deck for a community Christmas Party. Roy, his wife Barb, and all the staff and volunteers made Christmas extra special for these mountain folks. (more…)
For Gilpin County residents and businesses
Effective January 1, 2019 the Gilpin County 911 system will be replacing the previous Code Red notification system with Hyper-Reach. This important system allows Gilpin County 911 and emergency responders to contact citizens regarding emergency evacuations (Reverse 911), Gilpin County events, and other important notifications. It is recommended that all citizens living in Gilpin County, the City of Central, and the City of Black Hawk sign up for this important service. This new service goes into effect on January 1, 2019. For 22 years of service in Central City

Tuesday night, December 18, 2018, as the crack of Mayor Kathryn Heider’s gavel resounds Alderwoman Shirley Voorhies will get up from her chair behind the bench in Central City’s council chambers for the final time. Each step Shirley takes from those chambers represents her walk away from 22 years of civil service to the City of Central; eight on the council and before that, fourteen years on the Historic Preservation Commission and Historic Planning Commission. Competing with 16 schools

Gilpin varsity basketball teams score big wins over Platte Canyon

Both Gilpin High School’s boys’ and girls’ varsity teams triumphed over rival Platte Canyon (Bailey) on Saturday, December 8 in home non-league contests. The boys broke 80 points for the first time in a few years with their 84-45 win over the Huskies. The girls came in with a 39-22 victory. It was the first win this season for both teams, and they felt good about it, especially after tough losses (more…)

September 14, 1945 – December 6, 2018
Joanne M. Grapes, 73 of Golden, CO passed away December 6, 2018 surrounded by her family at Collier Hospice Center after a hard battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born September 14, 1945 in Spencer, SD to Lawrence and Lorraine (Cobernes) Wise.
Married to Donald D. Grapes on May 30, 1963, they ran the family dairy farm, then they traveled around until they settled in Black Hawk, CO and opened D&J Excavating in July of 1979. This community is where Don and Joanne raised their family, participated in (more…)
