Derek Coit, a man with an unwavering passion for music, an affinity for playing keyboards, and a love for the great outdoors, passed away on May 16, 2023. He was a cherished friend and a beloved son and brother who touched the lives of all who knew him.
Born on July 4, 1968, in Cherry Hills, Colorado, Derek’s early years were filled with the melodies of life. He discovered his talent for music at a young age, developing a deep connection to the keyboard. His soulful compositions and performances were a testament to his dedication and creativity.
Derek’s love for nature led him to embrace the art of landscaping. He found joy in working outdoors, transforming spaces into beautiful and harmonious environments. His commitment to his craft was evident in every project he undertook, leaving a lasting impression on the landscapes he touched.
Above all else, Derek treasured his friendships. He had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, making each person feel valued and appreciated. His kindness, warmth, and genuine nature created a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have known him.
In 2010, Derek relocated to Huntington Beach, California, seeking new horizons and opportunities. He quickly found solace in the vibrant music scene and immersed himself in the local community. His musical talent and infectious enthusiasm resonated with others, and he became an integral part of the music scene in his new home.
Throughout his life, Derek enjoyed golfing at Cherry Hills Country Club, where he honed his skills and fostered lasting friendships. He also spent many summers sailing with The Grand Lake Yacht Club, embracing the serenity of the open water and creating memories that would forever be cherished.
Derek’s dedication to his craft led him to a rewarding career in audio sweetening for Time Warner Motion Pictures. His meticulous attention to detail and passion for sound brought depth and richness to countless films, leaving an indelible mark on the world of cinema.
Derek is survived by his loving mother, Beverly, and his sister, Lisa. Their bond as a family was unbreakable, and their memories together will continue to be a source of comfort and strength.
We remember Derek Coit as a remarkable individual who pursued his passions with unwavering determination. His music, talent, and friendship enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. Derek’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A memorial service will be held on July 4th 1:00pm at The Green Bridge in Cherry Hills to celebrate his life.
