    Gilpin School Board extends mask mandate for final 30 days

    Superintendent Dr. David MacKenzie opened the April 6th Gilpin County School Board meeting by sharing that school has been in session 96 days. With 82% of students back for in-person learning, Gilpin Schools will continue to require masks for the last 30 days of school. This decision followed the executive order from the state extending the mask mandate, as well as a continuation order from the Gilpin County Commissioners. (more…)

    Death Claims Aged Resident

    Pioneer Globeville Public Official Passes at Age of 91. Nels C. Johnson, 91, of Floyd Hill, Colo., early-day public official in Globeville before it became part of Denver and former postmaster at Floyd Hill, died at his home Thursday after a short illness. He was a resident of Colorado fifty-three years, justice of the peace, and town treasurer of Globeville in the early days of its incorporation, and postmaster at Floyd Hill twenty-eight years. He retired a year and a half ago. Born in Denmark in 1847, he came to Chicago in 1871 at the age of 24, accompanied by his wife, Kirsten. After a few months in (more…)

    Interact is what Gilpin kids call the Gilpin County School Interact club, a Rotary sponsored youth organization. The Interact Club has been a part of the Gilpin School community since 2003. The club focuses on service projects and fundraising for charity. This year has been a little more challenging to come up with projects due to the pandemic and concerns over social distancing.     Jack Thompson remembered

    October 17, 1941 – March 16, 2021

    Jack Thompson passed away in Spokane, WA on March 16, 2021. He was born in Chappell, NE to Lloyd and Alice Thompson on October 17, 1941.  After he graduated high school he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served on the USS Ranger (CVA-61) for four years and loved it! He and his brothers got special permission from the Navy to serve on the carrier at the same time. While he served, he studied biology, and took wood/metal shop classes and was an Aviation Mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1965. (more…)
